Quick Guide

Here is a quick guide to some of the things you might like to know now your child has started shooting. 

Whistles        

 You will hear coaches using whistles to control the shooting.

1 whistle means safe to shoot
2 whistles means safe to collect the arrows
3 whistles means the end of the session.

'FAST'               

shout   If someone shouts 'fast', stop shooting immediately – 'fast' means there is some kind of danger. Can also be signalled by a
  continually blown whistle

Safety equipment

tab    Finger tab – goes on the hand pulling 
   the string to help give a smooth and consistent release
  

 

tab    Finger sling – prevents the bow 
   from falling out of the hand

QI19 Longshot Slim Leather Armguard   Arm brace – goes on the arm holding the bow to hold back
  loose clothing and help to give a smoother release of the arrow.

Other Archery Terms

faceTarget Face– the coloured paper that is shot at for scoring.

bossBoss – the round or square target, which the target face is pinned to


Sight marks 

The recorded setting on the sight. This allows accurate shooting at different distances – this will be a number i.e. 2.5 

Your child should record their sight marks and be encouraged to set the sight themselves.


Equipment

All Archery equipment is provided free of charge until you have purchased your own. Once you have your own equipment, you will be able to join Rayleigh Town Archery Club
